Scotland Yard said the local community can expect a larger police presence following the fatal incident.

“People are encouraged to speak with officers if they have any information which could assist the investigation or if they have any concerns,” it added.

Mayor of Newham Rokhsana Fiaz tweeted: "My deepest condolences to his family today following a devastating incident last night in Manor Park."

She added: "Myself and the Deputy Mayor... were at the scene last night providing reassurance to local residents and those there who knew the victim."

The horrifying incident came just hours after three teenagers were stabbed within minutes of each other in nearby streets in north-east London.
