Manor Park fire: 100 firefighters battle blaze at high-rise block of flats in east London

A blaze broke out at a high-rise block of flats in Manor Park, east London.

London Fire Brigade said part of a flat on the 13th floor and the whole flat on the 14th floor of the 15-storey block on Grantham Road is alight.

Dramatic footage from the scene revealed flames and a dark plume of smoke coming from the building.

Around 60 people fled the building before around 100 firefighters arrived on the scene.

The fire was under control by 4.46pm.

The brigade’s 999 control officers have taken 50 calls to the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

It’s the third major fire in London on Tuesday.

Firefighters were at The Beech House pub on the High Street in Hampton Hill after a blaze broke out on the ground floor to the roof of the three-storey building.

Road closures were in place while crews work to make the pub safe.

In a post on Facebook, the Beech House Hampton Hill said: “Unfortunately we have had to close for the remainder of today. Any bookings will be contacted.”

Thirty five firefighters were called just past 1pm and the fire was under control by 3pm.

Fire crews from Twickenham and Kingston fire stations and crews from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There are no reports of injuries.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, 60 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Queensdale Crescent in Shepherd’s Bush.

The flat on the 12th floor was badly damaged by fire.

Three people from the flat left before firefighters arrived and other residents in the building evacuated.

Station Commander David Bracewell said: “Fire crews led six residents to safety via an internal staircase. Further residents who were not affected by fire, heat or smoke were advised to remain in their flats.

“In the early stages we used new technology called 9Eye that enabled a caller to send live stream videos of the incident straight into the Brigade’s 999 call centre.

“We’ve also used a 32m turntable ladder to put water on the outside of the building.”

London Ambulance Service confirmed two patients were assessed at the scene and another was treated and taken to hospital.

London Fire Brigade took over three calls to the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
