Manly's Brown turns NRL lifeline into new two-year deal

Nathan Brown's NRL resurgence has continued with a new two-year contract extension at Manly.

After a whirlwind 18 months, former State of Origin forward Brown grabbed an NRL lifeline with the Sea Eagles when he signed a train-and-trial contract during the pre-season.

The 31-year-old had fallen dramatically out of favour at Parramatta under then-coach Brad Arthur in 2022, spending part of that year in reserve grade after being granted permission to negotiate with rivals.

He joined the Sydney Roosters after the 2023 season had begun, splitting his time there between the reserve-grade and NRL sides.

But Brown has re-emerged as a regular first-grader under Manly coach Anthony Seibold, his 150th NRL career appearance coming during his nine games so far this season.

He has averaged 103 metres in that time and has been named to make his first start for the Sea Eagles, against St George Illawarra, on Sunday.

Brown will remain with Manly until the end of 2026 after signing what could be his last contract; the two-time NSW representative will turn 34 the March after his new deal finishes.

Seibold said Brown had become a "cult hero" during his time at Brookvale.

"We are very happy now to extend Nathan for another two years,'' Seibold said.

"The biggest thing I can say about Nathan is that in a really short time here, he has become a bit of a cult hero at Manly because people like the way he plays.

"Nathan plays with plenty of intent and he cares about the team he plays in.

"We love having him here. I find Nathan really easy to coach. You give him a job and he goes after it."
