Imphal: Over 67% students - the highest in the last three years - cleared the Board of Secondary Education Manipur’s (BOSEM) High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or Class 10 board examinations 2017, results of which were declared on Saturday.
Last year, the pass percentage was 65.37 against 61.59 in 2015. Nearly 23,232 out of 34,829 students who wrote the exams passed. Of these, 8,641 were placed in first division, 13,500 in the second and 1091 in the third.
The pass percentage of students from private schools was 74, that of aided school was 52.15 and in the government-run schools, 45.70% managed to clear the exams.
Two girls secured the top two positions in the HSLC exam.
Priyanka Moirangthem of Nirmalabas School secured the first position and Thounaojam Joylity Devi of Eureka Academy bagged the second position.
Laishram Librada Singh of Sacred Heart School Yairipok and Shaha Minhaz of Tiny Tots’ Unique school Imphal were declared as the joint third toppers.
Priyanka, the daughter of Humeshwar and Raina from Khongman Moirang Pandit Leikai in Imphal east district, secured 567 marks out of 500. Joylity, the daughter of Kumar and Shakhitombi of Thounaojam in Kakching district, scored 562 marks.
Third position holders Librada of Yairipok Laishram Leikai in Thoubal district and Shaha Minhaz of Hatta in Imphal East district secured 561 marks each.
State education minister Th Radheshyam Singh announced the much-awaited result in the presence of parliamentary secretary (education) K Robindro and BOSEM officials in a press conference.
