Manhunt underway for armed suspect who shot Deputy in East Tennessee

Mass shooting in Half Moon Bay

A manhunt is currently underway in East Tennessee for a suspect accused of shooting and killing a sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Kenneth The Heart, is believed to be armed and dangerous, and authorities have offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

The incident occurred on Thursday when Deputy Greg McCowan was fatally shot by The Heart. Another officer, Deputy Shelby Eggers, was also injured in the altercation but has since been released from the hospital. The Blount County Sheriff's Office has launched a massive manhunt to apprehend the suspect.

Blount County Sheriff James Lee Barong has expressed his determination to bring The Heart to justice, stating, 'My friends behind me, they've had officers and they've stood up here before you before. I haven't. It's hard to see I've ever done.' The sheriff's office is urging residents in the Wildwood area to review their outdoor security or doorbell camera footage in case The Heart was captured on camera.

Blount County, home to the city of Maryville, is located approximately 30 miles west of Gatlinburg, a popular mountain town in eastern Tennessee. In response to the incident, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has issued a statewide blue alert for The Heart's arrest.

Authorities are warning the public not to approach the suspect and instead to immediately contact law enforcement if they spot him. Given his alleged dangerousness and possession of a firearm, it is crucial for individuals to prioritize their safety and cooperate with law enforcement.

The manhunt for Kenneth The Heart serves as a stark reminder of the risks and sacrifices law enforcement officers face every day. Deputy Greg McCowan tragically lost his life in the line of duty, and law enforcement agencies are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice.

The community is rallying together in support of law enforcement efforts, with the Blount County mayor's office offering a significant reward of $10,000 for any information that leads to The Heart's arrest. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is working closely with local authorities to coordinate search efforts and provide additional resources.

As the manhunt continues, the focus remains on capturing The Heart swiftly and ensuring public safety. The Blount County Sheriff's Office, along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, appreciates any assistance the community can provide in bringing this dangerous individual to justice.
