A statewide manhunt for suspected wife murderer Kevin Jewell has come to a grisly end after his body was found in regional South Australia.

Police confirmed the 55-year-old fugitive was found dead near Curramulka on the Yorke Peninsula on Thursday following an extensive search.

Emergency services were alerted to a body at the corner of Boundary and Brooke Roads by a member of the public just after 11.30am.

Officers found Jewell's white Mitsubishi Triton ute and then his body about 150 metres away.

Major Crime detectives and forensic response teams are making their way to the remote property and will conduct a coronial investigation.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Senior officers believe Jewell shot his wife Jodie dead in their suburban Adelaide home soon after 6pm on Tuesday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Justin Thompson on Thursday morning appealed for him to hand himself in.

"Hand yourself in peacefully," Sgt Thompson urged Mr Jewell on ABC radio, in the hope he was listening.

"The tragic events that happened on Tuesday night unfortunately can't be changed.

"You can't hide forever."

Superintendent Doc Bray on Wednesday said Ms Jewell, also 55, had previously told a friend she had been the victim of domestic violence, which had not been reported to police.

The friend became concerned when she couldn't contact Ms Jewell and called police, who found the mother dead in her Modbury North home.

Police on Wednesday obtained an arrest warrant for Mr Jewell in Adelaide Magistrates Court on a charge of murder.

He lived on the upper level of the house, while Ms Jewell and her teenage daughter resided downstairs.

"They had been somewhat estranged for a period of time," Supt Bray told reporters.

The daughter was not at home at the time of the incident.

Jewell was last seen driving towards Port Wakefield in his white Mitsubishi Triton ute about 7.30pm on Tuesday, Sgt Thompson said.

Jewell was believed to be armed with a rifle and ammunition.

"He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached by anyone," Supt Bray said.

Jodie Jewell is the fourth woman alleged to have been murdered in South Australia in the space of a week.
