A manhunt is today on after suspected ammonia and a blade were used in a broad daylight street attack.
Two men were injured in the attack, which happened in the Howdon area of Wallsend on Thursday afternoon. One suffered a chest wound which police believe were caused by a blade.
The second was left with facial injuries. Officers are investigating whether these were caused by ammonia.
No one has yet been arrested and police are now appealing for witnesses. A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At about 4.20pm on Thursday we received a report that two men had been assaulted on Windsor Drive, Howdon.
“Officers attended and found one man who had suffered a non-life threatening injury to his chest consistent with having been caused by a bladed article. The second man sustained facial injuries.
“An investigation has been launched into the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police."
A helicopter from the Great North Air Ambulance Service also attended the scene but the patients did not need to be airlifted to hospital. A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an injured man in Windsor Drive, Wallsend, at 4.18pm.
"We dispatched one ambulance crew and one crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team, and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service. The man was taken to hospital for further treatment."
Anyone with any information should call Northumbria Police on 101 quoting log NP-20220414-0671.
