Mandy Moore has hit back after being criticised for asking for donations to help her family who were left homeless in the Los Angeles wildfires.
Thousands of firefighters are attempting to control the original fire in Palisades - which has burnt nearly 16,000 acres - and seven other blazes raging through southern California.
The actress, 40, revealed her sister-in-law Kit and brother-in-law Griff “lost their home and everything they own” just weeks before they welcome their first child.
She shared a link on her Instagram bio to their GoFundMe page, which is aiming to raise $175,000.
“Griff is a touring musician and also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussion he uses to make a living. It’s all so much,” Moore wrote on Instagram while sharing a photo of their GoFundMe page.
“So many have asked how to help during this unimaginable and stressful time… Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild.”
Moore, whose own home was partially destroyed in the fires, later added a note to people asking if she would be giving financial assistance to her extended family.
“And people questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic,” the singer wrote.
“Of course we are. Our buddy Matt started this go fund me and i’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them. We just lost most of our life in a fire too.”
She concluded: “Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”
One follower commented under the post: “Pretty sure Mandy has boatloads more money than everyone donating to her family. Ridiculous.”
Another added: “Surely she can get them a new house?!”
Moore’s fans blasted the backlash, with one writing: “Just a reminder that this is likely Mandy & Taylor’s most devastating life event and they’re choosing to spend this time raising awareness for others. Be just as kind.”
“What is with the lack of compassion? Everyone in these areas lost everything including Mandy. Let’s lift each other up,” someone else wrote.
“Celebrity or not, she’s just a person and she’s asking for help for her family. Anyone would do the same.”
Moore and her husband Taylor Goldsmith’s Altadena home partially burned down in the Eaton fire.
Sharing photos of the rubble, she wrote on Instagram: “We were able to park and walk up our street to bear witness to all the loss.
“Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s not livable but mostly intact.
“We lost Taylor and Griffin’s studio with every instrument and piece of equipment they’ve ever owned. We lost our garage and back house.”
Moore is among dozens of celebrities who have lost their homes, including Paris Hilton, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Billy Crystal, and Mel Gibson.
