Manchester United youngster Sonny Aljofree signs first professional contract

Manchester United youngster Sonny Aljofree has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Aljofree, 18, was born in Plymouth and he's gradually risen through the academy to sign his professional deal. The centre-back scored his first goal for the Under-18s in January and he recently made the step up to the Under-21 side.

He made nine appearances in the Premier League 2 for the U21s in the latter stages of the campaign and he's been given a professional contract in recognition of his progress.

Aljofree wrote on social media: "Very proud moment for me and my family to sign my first professional contract with Manchester United. The hard work continues."

The youngster signed professional terms in the same week as he was named the club's Scholar of the Year. The award recognises the development and progression on and off the pitch and Alojfree was the latest pupil to claim the prize.

Rhys Bennett, who captained last season's FA Youth Cup winning team, was named the Scholar of the Year last term.

After the summer, Aljofree will begin the new season as part of Mark Dempsey's U21 side.
