Manchester United winger Amad has missed out on winning the 2022/23 Championship Young Player of the Season award, despite producing a series of eye-catching performances on loan at Sunderland this term.
The Ivorian, who joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan deal from United last August, was in the running to win the prestigious award at the annual EFL Awards in London on Sunday evening. He was hoping to win the award just hours after helping Sunderland climb into the play-off places with a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
The win over the Baggies elevated the Black Cats up to sixth with just two games to go, meaning they are still in with a chance of extending their season and achieving promotion.

The win at the Hawthorns marked Amad's 38th appearance of the season, highlighting how important he has been in Tony Mowbray's side mounting an unexpected promotion charge. He has scored an impressive 12 goals and grabbed four assists in all competitions.
He has excelled on Wearside, producing the kind of performances United and manager Erik ten Hag would have hoped to have seen when they made the decision to send him out on loan last summer. His efforts were rewarded with him being named on the three-man shortlist for the Championship Young Player of the Season.
Unfortunately for Amad, who has played as a winger, an attacking-midfielder and as a striker this season, he was pipped to the prize by Bristol City ace Alex Scott. The England youth international also won the award ahead of Middlesbrough ace Hayden Hackney.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News last week, Ten Hag is open to including Amad in his plans at Old Trafford next season. The Dutchman and fellow United staff are understood to be pleased with his development and the progress he has made this term.
