Manchester United XI vs Newcastle: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Carabao Cup today

Casemiro returns for Manchester United in tonight's Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle.

Erik ten Hag's side welcome the Magpies to Old Trafford for the fourth-round game, in a repeat of last season's final when United prevented Newcastle from ending their long trophy drought.

Casemiro scored at Wembley that day, but an ankle injury picked up while on international duty with Brazil earlier this month has ruled him out of recent matches and he was not named in the squad for the derby defeat by Manchester City on Sunday, casting doubt over whether he would return to full fitness in time to face Newcastle.

However, he is named in the starting XI tonight as captain alongside Mason Mount and young Hannibal Mejbri in midfield, with Ten Hag making seven changes from the derby in total including putting Bruno Fernandes on the bench.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has returned to first-team training and is a substitute tonight, but Sergio Reguilon comes into the starting lineup to bolster the options at the back having been on the bench against City.

However, Raphael Varane isn't involved at all as Victor Lindelof comes in for Jonny Evans to partner Harry Maguire in central defence.

There are changes in forward areas, with Alejandro Garnacho and Antony getting their chances out wide, while Anthony Martial gets his opportunity to lead the line with Ten Hag opting to rest Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford.

Manchester United XI: Onana, Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Reguilon, Casemiro, Hannibal, Mount, Antony, Garnacho, Martial

Subs: Bayindir, Evans, Wan-Bissaka, Amrabat, Fernandes, Eriksen, McTominay, Hojlund, Rashford

Injured: Martinez, Malacia, Shaw, Amad

Unavailable: Sancho

Time and date: 8.15pm GMT on Wednesday November 1, 2023

Venue: Old Trafford
