Man Utd XI vs Man City: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Community Shield

Lisandro Martinez will start at left-back for Manchester United in the Community Shield match against Manchester City this afternoon.

While the result of the traditional season curtain-raiser tends not to be too conducive to success in the long run, a trophy is nonetheless on the line at Wembley on Saturday - as well as Manchester derby bragging rights.

Man Utd already knew that Leny Yoro will miss out after undergoing surgery on a foot injury.

Harry Maguire sat out the friendly defeat to Liverpool last weekend as a precaution but he is back to start alongside Jonny Evans, who went off in that game having suffered from illness.

Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw miss out after Erik ten Hag confirmed doubts over their fitness, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is not involved ahead of joining West Ham.

Kobbie Mainoo has been thrust straight into the XI along with Martinez, Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese playmaker may start on the wing with Mason Mount and Amad Diallo joining him in attacking midfield.

Rasmus Hojlund is a confirmed absentee due to a hamstring injury so new No11 Joshua Zirkzee is on the bench ahead of making his debut. Jadon Sancho has been tested as a central forward in pre-season but to little effect, meaning he is also among the substitutes as Marcus Rashford starts up top.

Man Utd XI: Onana; Dalot, Maguire, Evans, Martinez; Casemiro, Mainoo; Fernandes, Mount, Amad; Rashford

Subs: Bayindir, Collyer, Eriksen, McTominay, Pellistri, Antony, Garnacho, Sancho, Zirkzee

Injuries: Yoro, Hojlund, Shaw, Lindelof

Time and date: 3pm BST, Saturday August 10, 2024

Venue: Wembley
