Manchester United warned Roy Keane could scupper Erling Haaland transfer plan

Paul Ince believes Roy Keane is one of the reasons why Erling Haaland won't sign for Manchester United.

United shortlisted the Norwegian hitman during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's time as manager, but the Manchester Evening News understands he remains on their list of targets despite Solskjaer's exit from the club.

Haaland has emerged as one of the best strikers in the world over recent seasons and is attracting attention from a whole host of Europe's biggest clubs.

However, former United man Ince believes Keane's spat with Haaland's dad, Alf-Inge, will see him reject a move to Old Trafford.

"[United] need a striker. Haaland’s a tricky one because of the situation with his dad and Keane at Old Trafford," he told Genting Casino.

The feud dates back to when Haaland's father was playing for Leeds and his challenge on Keane left the Irishman sidelined for the remainder of the season.

The defender later moved to Manchester City and Keane sought retribution by clattering into Haaland with a bad challenge of his own.

Ince went on to add that Haaland's snub would be confirmed if United fail to secure a place in the top four this season.

“I can’t see him going to Old Trafford just based on that [the Keane challenge], and if there’s no Champions League he definitely won’t," he added.
