Manchester United vs Wrexham stadium: Capacity, who plays there, have Man Utd been there before?

Manchester United will face National League club Wrexham during their pre-season tour of the United States at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California.

The friendly is the first fixture announced and, taking place on Tuesday, 25 July, looks like being towards the end of an expected three-week-long tour. United have only previously played Wrexham five times before, with the most recent of those coming in 1995 for an FA Cup fourth-round tie.

It is the first time in five years that the club have toured the US. For Wrexham, it is the first time they will play in North America two-and-a-half years after Hollywood actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds completed a takeover of the Welsh club.

Where are they playing?

The newly-built Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, is the venue for this pre-season friendly between United and Wrexham. It was previously called the Aztec Stadium during planning and construction after their original tenants.

Who usually plays there?

With the venue being a part of the San Diego State University campus in Mission Valley, the college's American football team, the Aztecs, call it home. The city's recently founded National Women's Soccer League side, the San Diego Wave, hosts home matches there, as do Major League Rugby's San Diego Legion.

Who else has played there?

Liga MX sides Club Tijuana and Club America played an exhibition fixture there earlier this month. It will also host a CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-final in the same month that United visit. It will also host the World Lacrosse Championship and is in the running to host matches at the men's and women's Rugby World Cups in 2031 and 2033.

What is the capacity?

The stadium seats 35,000 supporters, but this figure is expandable by another 20,000 to 55,000. The overall record attendance is just over 34,000 for San Diego State's college football season-opener against Arizona in September 2022; 32,000 is the record for a soccer match between the San Diego Wave and Angel City during that same month last year.
