Manchester United vs Middlesbrough prediction and odds: Reds can't afford to take Boro lightly in FA Cup clash

Checkout our 5/2 Manchester United vs Middlesbrough prediction below

Manchester United haven't failed to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup since 2014 and the Reds are a warm order to continue that trend by seeing off Middlesbrough in front of the BBC cameras on Friday night.

United are 8/25 favourites with Grosvenor Sport to see off their Championship rivals, who are 19/2 to cause an Old Trafford upset and go beyond the fourth round for the first time since 2017.

United made really hard work of their third round tie against Aston Villa, a game in which they were on the back foot for large parts, but they deserve credit for showing resilience and their reward was a home tie in the next round.

The players have had a winter break in Dubai since their last-gasp 1-0 win over West Ham on January 22 so they should, in theory at least, have been freshened up for the second half of the season.

Middlesbrough are one of the form teams of the Championship, picking up 15 points from their last six league matches, and much of the credit for that has to fall on the shoulders of boss Chris Wilder, who was brought in to replace Neil Warnock in early November.

Wilder has lost just two of the 12 matches he has been in charge while his side have kept five clean sheets in that short period. Only Preston have scored more than one goal against Middlesbrough in the league since the former Sheffield United boss took over.

Boro will be missing one or two key players for the trip to Old Trafford but one thing is clear, United cannot afford to take this fixture lightly and Rangnick's team selection will hopefully reflect the importance of United coming through this game.

Manchester United vs Middlesbrough prediction

This isn't an easy game to bet in for all sorts of reasons but United have hardly been blowing teams away at home this term, indeed they have only won one Old Trafford fixture (Burnley, 3-1) by more than a single goal since September 11, which is 14 matches.

Middlesbrough are going to be extremely well organised and if United don't make an early breakthrough then this could become uncomfortable for the Old Trafford faithful.

Under 2.5 goals was tempting at 27/25 but the more appealing wager is United to win by exactly one goal, which is a 5/2 chance with Grosvenor Sport (wager can be found under the 'Full Time' tab within the match page).

Recommended bet: Manchester United to win by a single goal - 5/2
