Liverpool host struggling Man City in crunch clash - live

Manchester United vs Everton

15:29

There's the final whistle, as Manchester United complete a one-sided 4-0 rout over Everton at Old Trafford to give Ruben Amorim his first win in the Premier League! Already 2-0 up from the first half, the hosts made it three almost instantly, as Rashford rattled in his second goal just 20 seconds after the restart. A fourth followed just 18 minutes later to seal the three points, with Amad involved yet again to steal possession and tee up Zirkzee for a brace of his own. United generated just 0.73 xG to Everton's 0.65, who had a glorious chance to net a consolation goal, only for Calvert-Lewin's diving header to be kept out by Onana in their only real chance of the second half. Sean Dyche's side remain 15th in the table following a fifth game without a win and fourth without a goal, while the Red Devils climb up to ninth with their first Premier League win of the Amorim era.

64’ GOAL! Manchester United 4-0 Everton (Zirkzee)

14:57 , Jack Rathborn

GOAL! United have another and so too does Zirkzee, just what the doctor ordered.

Amad wins it high up again, hounding Tarkowski before squaring to hand his Dutch teammate another goal on a plate.

Everton have won just one of their last 31 Premier League away games against Manchester United – a 1-0 victory in December 2013 – and any chance of altering that record this time around looks improbable to say the least.

Manchester United vs Everton

14:50

Fernandes latches onto a throughball and looks to knock the ball beyond Pickford, but the Toffees goalkeeper gets enough of a touch to force it wide and gives his defence a chance to recover.

GOAL! Manchester United 3-0 Everton (Rashford)

14:45 , Jack Rathborn

GOAL! And another for Rashford, a perfect afternoon for Ruben Amorim so far, and surely this leaves the Toffees buried!

Another fast-paced United move, a pattern developing you might suggest, as Rashford sprints in behind and Amad finds him.

It’s a composed finish, taken in his stride, as Rashford clips it beyond Pickford.

Manchester United vs Everton

14:27

United captain Fernandes has been instrumental to his side's 2-0 lead at the break, getting the assists for both with two of his seven passes in the final third. The Portuguese has also had three touches in the box, completed both of his dribbles, and come up with possession five times from six duels, including twice in Everton's own defensive third. Skipper.

Manchester United vs Everton

14:25

There's the half-time whistle, and at the break it's Manchester United who are in control with a 2-0 lead over Everton! The hosts did start brightly to generate a good portion of the 0.39 xG through Mainoo, Amad and Rashford's efforts all being kept at bay, while the Toffees had chances of their own, producing 0.20 xG at the other end as Lindstrom saw a shot saved and Beto fired into the side netting. Towards the end of the half though, United struck twice in quick succession, as Rashford's volley from a corner deflected in off Branthwaite. The Everton defender was caught out soon afterwards, as Amad pinched possession and Fernandes teed up Zirkzee to make it 2-0. Ruben Amorim will be delighted as his side go two goals up for the first time, while Sean Dyche has plenty to do if his team are to turn things around in the second half.

GOAL! Manchester United 2-0 Everton (Zirkzee)

GOAL! Another for United from a high press and a frenetic counter, with Zirkzee profiting, does anybody need a goal as much as the Dutch forward?

It’s Amad on the right and he pinches possession, Fernandes surges clear and with the Toffees all over the place, Zirkzee sprints into the box, meeting the square pass.

Buried into the back of the net, United are two up and surging towards a first league win under Amorim.

GOAL! Manchester United 1-0 Everton (Rashford)

14:08 , Jack Rathborn

GOAL! Marcus Rashford breaks the deadlock for the Red Devils and there are shades of Beckham to Scholes and that iconic goal.

Bruno Fernandes drifts a corner to the edge of the area and Rashford is lurking in space.

At the top of the box, the English forward takes a swipe and it cannons in thanks to a deflection off Jarrod Branthwaite.

Everton match facts

13:25 , Chris Wilson

Both of Everton’s last two Premier League games have finished 0-0 – only once in their league history have they had three consecutive goalless draws, doing so in February 1982.

Everton have failed to score in more different Premier League games than any other side this season (6), while only Liverpool (6) and Manchester United (5) have kept more clean sheets than the Toffees (4). Everton have already had three 0-0 draws this term, last having more in 2015-16 (4).

Including crosses, only Andreas Pereira (103) has played more passes into the opposition box in the Premier League this season than Everton’s Dwight McNeil (101). McNeil’s 30 chances created this term is almost twice as many as any other Toffees player (Ashley Young, 16).

Dyche: “You’ve got to play them all”

13:20 , Chris Wilson

“Everyone talks of a ‘new manager bounce’ and the rest of it, so it’s more difficult in that way of thinking, but they’ve still got good players.

“A new manager to the Premier League will maybe give a different feel to it. I’m sure he’s been working with the players and trying to get his thoughts across.”

“You’ve got to play them all. The fixtures have given us this run and it’s a tough run, but everything’s tough in the Premier League. We’ve shown before that we can take these teams on and that’s what we’ve got to do again.”

13:23

Sean Dyche also opts for a headline change of his own, dropping Dominic Calvert-Lewin from the starting XI for the first time this season. The good, the bad and the ugly of Ruben Amorim’s first Man Utd game at Old Trafford

13:10 , Chris Wilson

The banner in the Stretford End was written in Ruben Amorim’s native Portuguese. “Bem vindo a casa,” it read. Welcome home.

Some 25 minutes into his first game at Old TraffordManchester United’s new head coach may have wondered if the welcome constituted more of a warning. His new side were losing 2-1 to a club from inside the Arctic Circle, the self-destructive streak that marred Erik ten Hag’s reign apparent as they conceded twice to Bodo/Glimt, a result every bit as excruciating as the worst under his predecessor on the cards. Amorim had traded a club second in the Champions League for one who, if only briefly, stood 19th in the Europa League standings. United looked experts in embarrassing themselves.

When the final whistle blew, Amorim at least had a first win under his belt. He will hope for more convincing victories; less chaotic ones, too. But he appreciated his reception. “Half of the stadium doesn’t know me, I came from Portugal and I did nothing for this club. Yet the way they make me feel at home is special,” he said. “I felt I am not alone now, I am one of them.”

Manchester United vs Everton

13:13

The 15th placed Toffees, meanwhile, are winless in their last four games and have failed to score for the last three on the bounce, with just two victories to their name so far this season. That’s only two less than Manchester United, but Everton can’t climb any higher than 15th even if they win this match.

Manchester United vs Everton

13:08

As Ruben Amorim prepares to take charge of the Red Devils in his maiden Premier League home match, he’ll he hoping his 13th placed side can improve upon their 1-1 draw at Ipswich in his first game – in which they opened the scoring inside two minutes but were second-best for the remaining 88.

13:03

Hello, and welcome to live coverage of this Premier League fixture, as Manchester United host Everton at Old Trafford to kick off the final month of 2024.

United match facts

13:00 , Chris Wilson

No side’s Premier League games have seen fewer goals scored this season than Manchester United’s (26). Only Southampton (9), Crystal Palace and Everton (10) have netted fewer goals than the Red Devils (13), while only Liverpool (8) and Arsenal (12) have conceded fewer (13).

Manchester United have scored 13 goals from an xG of 18.3 in the Premier League this term, netting around five goals fewer than the quality of their chances suggests. No team is underperforming compared to their xG more than the Red Devils (-5.3).

This is Ruben Amorim’s first home league game in charge of Manchester United. Since the start of last season, the Portuguese has won all 22 of his home league games in charge of Sporting CP by an aggregate score of 72-13.

Amorim: “I am hoping to win”

12:50 , Chris Wilson

“It is going to be a different match. [There will be] a lot of fighting, long balls, second balls. A quality coach that understands the league and understands the quality of the opponent.

“We need to have the ball because we have a short time to recover with the team.

“So I hope for a win and I hope to see different things from my team, like we did from Ipswich to now. With Everton, [we will be] without training and I expect to see different things and better things.”

“They are very good players and they need to believe as we will show individual stuff, team stuff and work. If you cannot run then jog and make the same exercise, of course it is not the same, but you can manage to try and win games.

“We will rotate players and we will be ready. Today we have to use like four subs to manage the fitness, not the game, we managed the fitness today and we have to do it. We already know it will be like that; no excuses and we should be ready for Sunday. We have to win.”

Head-to-head

12:40 , Chris Wilson

These two sides have played 194 times, with United winning 90, Everton winning 56 and 48 ending as draws. The first meeting between the two took place in 1892.

Last season, United won both fixtures – 3-0 at home and 2-0 away, including an Alejandro Garnacho wondergoal.

The last time Everton won this fixture was in April 2022.
