Manchester United have been told the public dispute between Ralf Rangnick and Jesse Lingard shows that there's something fundamentally wrong at Old Trafford.
Lingard saw a potential loan transfer to Newcastle blocked on January deadline day as former club West Ham also made a late attempt to sign him before the 11pm cut-off.
Following that, the 29-year-old has been granted time away from Carrington to 'clear his head' and will not feature in United's FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford tonight (8pm).
Rangnick claimed that decision was made at Lingard's request, but the player has since contested that stance with comments made on social media platform Twitter.
Speaking to Sky Sports, former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson said: "We've had the same with Anthony Martial this season. There is something fundamentally wrong - and there is a breakdown in communication that the players feel as though they have to come out and, not necessarily undermine the manager, but give their side of the story and say what they think is the truth.
"How the club have treated him [Lingard] isn't right. The manager is, clearly, not the one who blocked him his move on deadline day.
"The manager said that he was happy for him to leave and the club seemingly blocked the move [to Newcastle].
"For them to not let him go and pursue first-team football and, in a World Cup year as well... he's a player who has got a lot to prove and his destiny is in his own hands between now and the end of the season.

"Come the end of the season, he can choose where he wants to go, but the communication and the relationship at Old Trafford, there is something amiss. Whether the manager's not communicating with players in the dressing room or it's his man-management with the players.
"A one-off with Martial, who was disgruntled and already wanting to leave, you can maybe understand that. What's gone on with Jesse Lingard and the way that's been portrayed, there is someone not telling the truth."
