Manchester United to 'rival' Tottenham for £50m Alessandro Bastoni and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are set to go head-to-head with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni this summer.

That is according to a report by Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport, via SempreInter. It is claimed that new United manager Erik ten Hag is a 'huge admirer' of the Italian and would like to add him to his armoury at Old Trafford.

United are on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer and have already identified Pau Torres as a target. The Villarreal defender has often been on United's radar and Ten Hag is understood to have been consulted about the prospect of signing him.

As for Bastoni — who turned 23 last month — it is reported that Inter are set to demand £50million for his signature. He racked up 44 appearances for the Italian giants this season, scoring one goal.

Bastoni has also established himself on the international stage over the past year, becoming a more regular fixture in Italy manager Roberto Mancini's plans. However, he only made one appearance at last summer's European Championship, starting Italy's 1-0 win over Wales.

Meanwhile, Leicester are keen on signing United midfielder James Garner, following his outstanding loan spell at Nottingham Forest this season. That is according to a report by the Mirror, who claim that the Foxes have placed him 'high' on their list of targets.

The Birkenhead-born midfielder capped off his season-long loan stint at Forest with a bang on Sunday, playing a key role in their promotion to the Premier League, beating Huddersfield Town 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley. He provided the assist for the only goal of the game, seeing his cross converted by Huddersfield's Levi Colwill for an own-goal.

Garner, who made 49 appearances for Forest this season, has also been linked with Southampton but will hope to force his way into Erik Ten Hag's plans at United next season.
