Manchester United 'to make formal' Mason Mount bid and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are expected to table a formal bid for Mason Mount but remain some way short of Chelsea's valuation, according to reports.

Mount's exit from Chelsea this summer is becoming increasingly likely, with the midfielder set to call time on an 18-year spell at his boyhood club. The 24-year-old's contract will enter its final 12 months come July and no progress in discussing fresh terms will likely force to London club to cash in or risk losing him on a free next year.

United are among several Premier League clubs interested in Mount, with Erik ten Hag keen to add quality and depth to his midfield ahead of a potential title challenge. Liverpool have also expressed an interest in the England international, but Sky Sports reports that the Reds will try and get ahead with a formal offer.

However their valuation is still some way short of Chelsea's, who remain insistent on maximising value despite Mount having just one year left on his contract. United will not overpay for the boyhood Blue and have alternative options - namely Moises Caicedo - should they find themselves unable to meet in the middle.

Elsewhere, the Telegraph reports that United remain in the race for David Raya despite Tottenham leading the race.

Ange Postecoglou wants to make the Brentford goalkeeper one of his first signings at Spurs, with long-standing first-choice Hugo Lloris leaving the club this summer. The North London club are said to have made contract with Raya, who would be open to the move.

But while the Bees are resigned to losing their shot-stopper, they remain stubborn in valuing him at £40million, and Tottenham's reluctance to match that price-tag could open the door for United.

As with Postecoglou, Ten Hag is looking to add a new goalkeeper to the mix with David De Gea's future uncertain. At this moment, the 32-year-old will leave United when his contract expires at the end of this month, although talks have been ongoing for some time over fresh terms.

De Gea's future notwithstanding, Ten Hag is keen to add competition and cover in that area and is a fan of Raya.
