Manchester United to 'hijack' Chelsea swoop for Malo Gusto and other transfer rumours

Manchester United want to hijack a move for Chelsea target Malo Gusto and welcome the highly-rated Lyon right-back to Old Trafford instead - according to reports.

After going on a spending spree already this month, the Blues are eyeing-up a swoop for the 19-year-old who has played 15 games in Ligue 1 this season. However, with the January deadline now on the horizon, United are said to have launched their own pursuit for him, as per reports from RMC Sport.

Gusto is understood to have agreed personal terms with Chelsea, but United are reported to have told him to think about his decision amid late interest from Old Trafford. Gusto is said to prefer a switch to Chelsea - at this stage - having impressed this term.

Elsewhere, reports suggest United would be willing to sell Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay next summer - with both men having played bit-part roles under Erik ten Hag this campaign.

Having slipped behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the pecking order, Maguire was overlooked in the Manchester derby with left-back Luke Shaw preferred in the centre. As for McTominay, he has only started one Premier League game for the club since October.

Speculation over his immediate future has come to the fore this month amid interest from Newcastle, but the Saudi-backed Mapgies distanced themselves from a move. But while Maguire and McTominay will stay put, for now, it has been claimed their days at Old Trafford are numbered.

Reports from radio station talkSPORT suggest United will cash-in on those players in the summer as part of an ongoing rebuild under Ten Hag. However, the same article also states that the Dutchman reckons Maguire and McTominay can play a part in the run-in this season with United still in four competitions.
