Manchester United to exercise clause in Marcus Rashford's contract amid World Cup 2022 heroics

Manchester United are confident of tying down Marcus Rashford to a new deal.

England star Rashford, 25, has made himself a World Cup hero with three goals in the Group stage. Rashford’s current deal expires next summer but there Is a 12-month option which United intend to exercise to stop him being able to talk to foreign clubs from January 1.

But United also want to reward Rashford for his impressive form under Erik ten Hag with a new long term deal. Rashford’s priority remains to stay at Old Trafford and he snubbed any chance of moving on last summer because he was so determined to stay and fight for his place.

United forward Rashford, who is currently on around £200,000-a-week, has also fought back from a dip in form and being left in the England wilderness.

Rashford had not kicked a ball for England since missing a penalty in the Euros shoot-out but has regained his form and his place. His performances are certain to increase his value but United are desperate to tie down the academy graduate to a new deal.

Harry Maguire has revealed he spoke to Rashford to encourage him to rediscover his belief during his time out of the England senior team.

"I speak to him a lot and I try to give him as much belief as I can. But listen, Marcus is a fantastic player who has had a great career up until now. I think this last year has been difficult for him, but all good players rise to the top again," Maguire said,.

"I am close to Marcus, a good mate of his on and off the field, the main thing was trying to get the belief back in his game. Marcus is a fantastic talent and you see it day in day out when you train with him.

"It was only a matter of time until he got his confidence and form back. A career is a long time, over 15 years, there will be a lot of ups and downs. You've got to bounce back if you want to be successful and he's done that.

"I am really pleased for Marcus. For the last year or so he has been in and out of the England team and set up. Throughout a long career, you will always have ups and downs.

"It is all about how you bounce back when you are out of form. He has kept working hard and done that tirelessly. I can't speak highly enough of Marcus. He is a wonderful man and a great player.

"And he's showed he belongs on this stage. He showed he belongs on this stage. When he gets that opportunity with the confidence that he has, he is a threat to anyone."
