Napoli striker Victor Osimhen saw his run of scoring in eight consecutive Serie A matches come to an end on Friday evening, the striker falling short of Cristiano Ronaldo's 11-game record.
Luciano Spalletti's side fell to a first defeat 11 games at home to Lazio, conceding in the 67th-minute after being frustrated for much of the previous hour. Despite enjoying the lion's share of possession, 14 shots yielded just two on target - neither of which were from Osimhen.
The Nigerian striker has been in scintillating form all season, his 19 goals in 21 league games seeing Napoli pull 17 points clear at the top of the table and on course for a first Scudetto since 1990. And that run intensified at the turn of the year, with a run of 10 goals in eight games.

The form of both Osimhen and his Napoli side had led many to believe the 24-year-old would go on to break the record for the longest consecutive scoring streak, which is currently set by Ronaldo on 11, but a failure to find the net on Friday has ended that chance.
Napoli still have 13 league games left to play, handing Osimhen a slim window in which to kick on another scoring run and overtake the former United and Juventus striker, and with speculation over his future likely to intensify this summer, it could be the final chance before leaving Italy.
MEN Sport understands United are expected to make two major signings this summer, with Osimhen among a number of world-class forwards being eyed by the club. Harry Kane is also an option being explored by those in charge at Old Trafford.
Wout Weghorst signed on loan for the season in January, but while the Dutchman has provided much of what Erik ten Hag was looking for, goals have been hard to come by - just the one in 10 appearances. Anthony Martial has been left frustrated by injuries for much of the campaign and is once again unavailable for Sunday's game against Liverpool.
