Manchester United takeover latest - Sir Jim Ratcliffe bid impacting Liverpool FC summer transfer plan

With this Wednesday marking the start of the summer transfer window, a lack of clarity regarding the potential takeover of Manchester United continues to overshadow plans.

Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe remain in the running to take over from the Glazers, but frustration is growing over the lengthy process as the American family and the Raine Group mull over the next steps.

Erik ten Hag and his staff are underway with executing their plans for the summer, but face uncertainty so long as the takeover process continues. However reports of it all coming to a head soon should provide some optimism.

Below is a round-up of the latest takeover news.

Liverpool in transfer limbo

Liverpool's pursuit of Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram is unable to progress due to uncertainty regarding Sir Jim Ratcliffe's takeover bid, according to French media, with the INEOS founder also current owner of the Ligue 1 side.

The Merseyside club are widely reported to have made contact with the 22-year-old's camp as Jurgen Klopp aims to reinforce his midfield options.

However, according to L’Equipe, any chance at negotiating with Nice is unlikely, with the French outfit's summer plans dependant on Sir Jim Ratcliffe's stance regarding United.

Should the billionaire complete his takeover of the Reds, then that will likely affect Nice's summer budget and potentially force them to negotiate a sale for one of their stars - valued at just over £50million.

Preferred bidder choice 'close'

With the summer transfer window opening on Wednesday, securing a takeover and focusing on the future is of the upmost importance, and reports suggest that the Raine Group could pick their preferred bidder by the end of this week.

Both leading parties - Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim - are finalising individual details at this current time, with a decision on exclusivity expected in the coming days, according to the Daily Mail.

Following that decision, the preferred bidder will get access to confidential financial information before negotiating a final offer alongside the Glazers.

The report adds that frustration is growing not just with the two bidders, but also with staff and officials inside the club who are hoping for a swift resolution once exclusivity is granted.
