Manchester United takeover latest as Avram Glazer speaks out and TeamViewer sponsorship ends

The Glazer family announced recently that they were open to the idea of selling Manchester United.

A statement posted on the club's website read: "As part of this process, the board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the company.

"This will include an assessment of several initiatives to strengthen the club, including stadium and infrastructure redevelopment, and expansion of the club’s commercial operations on a global scale, each in the context of enhancing the long-term success of the club’s men’s, women’s and academy teams, and bringing benefits to fans and other stakeholders."

United fans are hoping that the club will be sold in the near future, however, Avram Glazer was quick to point out that they are exploring all avenues. The Athletic approached him outside the Al-Bayt Stadium in Qatar and he said: “It’s not necessarily a sale, it’s a process and we’re going forward with the process, so we’ll see what happens.

“I’m here to really watch the World Cup but I appreciate your interest. That’s the update, it’s the process and the process is proceeding.”

However, a recent development has given fans reason to think that the club may be gearing up for a change in ownership. United signed a deal in 2021 for TeamViewer to be their shirt sponsor over a five-year period.

In the past few days, the company have announced that they will not be continuing their partnership with United. A statement read: “After a period of collaborative, private discussions over the past months, Manchester United and TeamViewer AG have reached a mutually-beneficial agreement under which Manchester United shall have the option to buy back the rights to the club’s shirt front sponsorship.

“This will allow Manchester United to commence a focused sales process for a new long-term shirt front partner with the expectation for TeamViewer to transition out of this role as soon as practicably possible."
