Manchester United supporters' group stage anti-Glazer protest outside club's London offices

Some Manchester United supporters staged an anti-Glazer protest outside the club's London offices on Friday, just hours after it was confirmed that they were set to receive a major cash injection from the club.

It emerged on Friday morning that the six members of the Glazer family who have shares in the club were set to receive a large portion of the £11million being handed out through dividends. The dividends are paid twice a year, in January and June, with the majority of them going to the Glazers.

Last year, the dividends were worth £10.7million to United shareholders, with around £8million of that sum going to the Glazer family. The Glazers, who continue to find themselves under enormous pressure from the supporters, have often taken large sums of money out of the club, and it was confirmed, only last month, that United's debts had risen to nearly £500million in their latest financial accounts, up by 11.8 per cent from the previous year.

The news attracted yet more scathing criticism of the Glazer family, meaning an ever-growing number of United supporters are desperate to see a change in ownership at Old Trafford. Another protest, the Manchester Evening News understands, is set to take place ahead of United's final pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford on July 31, which will mark new manager Erik ten Hag's first home game in charge.

Some supporters, however, are not prepared to wait another five weeks before they can make their voices heard, with the 1958 group, who are an underground group of Reds supporters 'intent on upholding the values of Manchester United, its culture and tradition', visiting the club's London offices on Friday. They displayed a banner across the entrance to Stratton House, which is located in Mayfair, and put a sticker on the sign adjacent to the path leading up to the entrance.

The banner said: "We want our club back. Some things are worth fighting for."

Uploading the images to Twitter, the 1958 group said: "We thought we'd pay a visit to the United offices in Mayfair today to show our disgust at the leeches taking money out of a failing business. We assume they are busy arranging the Glazers bank transfer!

"These leeches need to go! Some things are worth fighting for…"
