Manchester United supporters' group condemn 'illegal' chants aimed at Everton boss Frank Lampard

An LGBTQ+ Manchester United supporters' group have "strongly condemned" the chants aimed at Frank Lampard during the FA Cup tie at Old Trafford on Friday and called on the club to identify the culprits.

The Toffees were dumped out of the competition after Antony and Marcus Rashford fired either side of a Conor Coady own goal, shortly after the defender had levelled for the Blues.

But despite the victory, Manchester United's officially recognised LGBTQ+ supporters' club, Rainbow Devils, expressed their dissatisfaction at sections of the home crowd who targeted the former Chelsea midfielder, Lampard, with X-rated slurs throughout the game.

NO TIME FOR SILENCE: Everton fans are right to demand answers from the top

"We strongly condemn the taunting of Frank Lampard with the illegal and homophobic chant from a section of our fans and call for the club to take action @ManUtd," read a statement on Twitter. "We call on @ManUtd to do everything in their power to identify the culprits and deal with them in the strongest possible manner #ManchesterUnited"

After falling behind early in the second half, things went from bad to worse for the Toffees as first Alex Iwobi was stretched off the field with what appeared to be a severe injury. Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin would soon have a goal ruled out following a VAR check, which showed Demarai Gray to have uptaken in an illegal position by the slightest of margins.

Everton face Southampton at Goodison Park next weekend.
