Manchester United 'submit offer' for Antoine Griezmann and more transfer rumours

Manchester United have submitted an offer worth £52.5million to sign Antoine Griezmann - according to new speculation over the Atletico Madrid forward.

Griezmann, 31, was a shining light for Les Bleus at the World Cup on their way to the Qatar showpiece. While over there, the former Barcelona man operated in an unfamiliar central midfield role.

However, by trade Griezmann is an attack-minded player as United target reinforcements in that area next month. Erik ten Hag is expected to make his move with PSV starlet Cody Gakpo and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen drawing interest from the Old Trafford boardroom.

But could Griezmann be a "surprise" option for them? He started this season registered with Barcelona and on loan at Atletico, before making that return permanent following one or two high-profile contractual issues.

Spanish publication Fichajes claim that United and other potential suitors are still tracking him, though, after his impressive performances with France this winter. France reached their second straight World Cup final, before they were ultimately beaten on penalties by Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina.

Elsewhere, reports from Correio de Manh suggest United would have to pay £65million to sign Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa from FC Porto next summer. Costa, 23, has only recently put pen-to-paper on a new contract there in a move to stave off United, Barcelona and Chelsea while protecting their financial interests.

It's understood the stopper now has a release clause at around the above figure. United are planning to trigger one-year options with long-serving goalkeeper David de Gea and four other players.

However, that has not prevented the club from being linked with potential successors. Costa played every available minute for his country at the World Cup, although his performances there were not overly convincing.
