Man United defender Phil Jones' squad list snub
Manchester United have left Phil Jones out of their most recent squad lists as his contract expiry date looms.
The defender last played in May’s 3-0 win over Brentford in what was the club’s final home game of the 2021/22 season. He enjoyed an unexpected five-match comeback under Ralf Rangnick last term.

But the 30-year-old has played just 13 times in the past two-and-a-half seasons amid long-term injury issues, having signed a contract renewal in 2019. Erik ten Hag admitted there has been no chat about a new deal for Jones, whose 12-year stay at Old Trafford is set to end this summer.
Jones was not taken on United’s pre-season tour and was left out of their Premier League squad for the 2022/23 season. And it seems his exit this summer is inevitable amid United’s latest omission. He did not feature in either of the last two squad lists printed on the back of United’s matchday programme United Review.

Anthony Martial equals David Beckham record
Anthony Martial’s strike against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday saw him draw level with David Beckham's goal tally for Manchester United.
The Frenchman scored his 85th goal for the club after coming off the bench in the 2-0 League Cup semi-final second leg win. Martial also moves into the top 25 all-time United goalscorers as a result. The striker has taken 283 games to reach the milestone, while Beckham - a midfielder - took 388 matches. Speaking after the match, Erik ten Hag detailed what Martial brings to his United set-up.
Martial has missed 19 matches through injury this season but has still managed to net six goals and tally two assists in his 14 outings. He is yet to see out a full 90 minutes this season amid his setbacks, prompting Ten Hag to bring in Wout Weghorst on loan for the rest of the season.
The Dutchman opened his own account in the first leg against Forest and came close to doubling his United tally when his header hit the post in the first-half of Wednesday’s meeting. Martial did manage to convert in his half-hour showing and joined an elite list because of his strike.
