Manchester United star Marcus Rashford nominated for Premier League Player of the Season award

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been nominated for the 2022/23 Premier League Player of the Season award.

The England international, 25, has enjoyed a stellar campaign in Erik ten Hag's first season in charge at Old Trafford, scoring 29 goals in all competitions. He has played a key role in the Reds' resurrection under the Dutchman and is just one goal away from becoming the first United player to score 30 goals in a single season since Robin van Persie exactly a decade ago.

Rashford, who scored three times for England at the World Cup in Qatar, has enjoyed the best campaign of his career to date. He has been United's go-to man and has stepped up time and time again.

Of his 29 goals, 16 of them have come in the Premier League, meaning only five players have scored more than him in the division this season. He has also chipped in with five league assists, meaning he has directly contributed to 21 of United's 51 league goals this term.

Named on a seven-man shortlist, Rashford faces competition for the award from Arsenal duo Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, Manchester City stars Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, Newcastle United's Kieran Trippier and Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur.

All of the seven aforementioned players have enjoyed stellar campaigns in their own right, not least Haaland, who has notched a record-breaking 36 Premier League goals and 52 in all competitions. Kane, who is United's main target ahead of the summer transfer window, has scored 27 league goals this season.

Fans have until 12:00 BST on Monday, May 22 to vote for their winner. The public vote will be combined with those from a panel of football experts to decide the winner, who will be revealed on Saturday, May 27 - just a day before the Premier League campaign concludes.

The last United player to win the division's Player of the Season award was former centre-back Nemanja Vidic back in 2010/11. It has been won by a City player in all of the last three seasons, twice being scooped by De Bruyne.

As a side note, Rashford has won the division's Player of the Month award on three occasions this season. After winning it back in September, he also scooped the gong in both January and February.
