Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo wins Premier League Goal of the Month award

Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo's stunning strike in the 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford has been crowned the Premier League's Goal of the Month for March.

After missing the Manchester derby through injury, and being heavily criticised for travelling to Portugal whilst his team-mates were thrashed by Manchester City, Ronaldo marked his return to the team in style, netting a stunning hat-trick to strengthen the Reds' top-four ambitions. His first goal of the contest was nothing short of sensational and it is that which has been recognised.

Picking the ball up from cute Fred pass, the Portuguese star took two touches to set himself before arrowing in a fierce drive from around 25 yards out, setting him on his way to his first United hat-trick in 14 years. It was a fine strike and one that proved pivotal in the Reds securing their first win over Spurs at Old Trafford since December 2019.

Whilst his first of the contest was the most eye-catching and spectacular, his second of the game, a tap-in from close range, cemented his place in the history books. It marked his 806th goal of his senior career, making him the all-time leading goalscorer in men's professional football.

Ronaldo, who will be hoping to pick up where he left off when Leicester City visit Old Trafford on Saturday, was one of eight players nominated for the Premier League award. Joining him on the list were the likes of Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli, Reece James of Chelsea and Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Ronaldo is the first United player to have won the accolade since Edinson Cavani scooped it in May last year for his lobbed effort against Fulham in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. The Reds won it on two occasions last term, meaning there is still time for them to repeat the feat once again this season.
