United frustrated by De Jong transfer delays
Manchester United are frustrated by the inordinate delays to their protracted summer swoop for Frenkie de Jong, amid well-documented financial issues at current club Barcelona.
The Manchester Evening News understands United have agreed an overall fee of €85million (£71.5m) for the Barcelona and Netherlands playmaker, but wage deferrals continue to prevent that high-profile transfer being finalised.
De Jong, 25, is owed €17m in unpaid wages dating back to November 2020 when Barcelona players agreed to their wages being deferred to ease financial concerns brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Youngster added to first-team training group
United youngster Sonny Aljofree was called up to first-team training at Carrington before their Premier League opener with Brighton on Sunday afternoon (2pm).
After being brought in to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a permanent basis, Erik ten Hag will step into the dugout for his first competitive game as manager. His matchday squad is unlikely to feature too many surprises given that selection was relatively consistent during pre-season friendlies in Thailand and Australia.
However, there is genuine hope moving forward that Ten Hag will put faith into the next generation and several promising Academy graduates have played throughout the summer. Charlie Savage and Zidane Iqbal were among those to impress while away on tour.
