Manchester United stance on Alvaro Fernandez future ahead of Tyrell Malacia transfer

Manchester United are open to sending Alvaro Fernandez out on loan next season as they close in on a deal to sign fellow left-back Tyrell Malacia.

United have agreed deals in principle to sign both Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona and Feyenoord defender Malacia as part of their summer rebuild under new manager Erik ten Hag.

The respective deals are subject to the players completing medicals, with United having agreed a €15m (£12.9m) with Feyenoord for Malacia and a €65million (£56.14m) deal plus add-ons with Barcelona for De Jong.

The Manchester Evening News understands the arrival of Malacia could force Fernandez to look elsewhere for football next season, with a loan exit being considered by the club.

The 19-year-old defender is eager to continue his development with his first taste of senior football over the next campaign and is set to be given a chance by Ten Hag during the upcoming pre-season tour.

United sources have reiterated that any loan exit will need to be sanctioned by the new manager first, though it is difficult to see Fernandez getting much meaningful playing time next season if a new left-back is signed this summer.

The club seriously considered sending Fernandez out on loan in the January transfer window after many enquiries about his signature, but instead opted to keep him at Old Trafford to continue his development.

It is understood there is already interest from Championship sides being shown in the former Real Madrid hopeful over a possible loan deal.

Fernandez was named United's U23 Player of the Year for his performances over the last campaign and was named on the bench for the last four matches under Ralf Rangnick.
