Manchester United squad revealed for Premier League fixture vs Brighton

Manchester United have included midfielder Fred in the squad for this evening's Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian international, who turns 29 next month, has missed United's last two matches after testing positive for Covid-19 in the days that followed the Reds' shock FA Cup defeat to Championship side Middlesbrough earlier this month.

The midfielder stepped off the bench that evening late on, just days after arriving back in the UK following a spell with the Brazil squad on international duty. Therefore, the midfielder has only played for United five times in 2022 so far, missing three matches.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday, United interim manager Ralf Rangnick confirmed that the Brazilian would be available for the visit of the Seagulls.

"Yes, Fred will be available again and will also be part of the group for tomorrow," he said.

Fellow Brazilian Alex Telles, who also recently recovered from Covid-19, has been included in the squad once again. He missed both the clashes with Middlesbrough and Burnley but was an unused substitute against Southampton on Saturday, with Luke Shaw preferred at left-back.

Centre-backs Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane were also spotted arriving at the Hyatt Hotel in Manchester on Tuesday afternoon, meaning they have both been included in the squad, despite Maguire coming under increasing pressure from the supporters in recent weeks and questions being raised about whether or not the latter could cope with such a huge volume of games amid his recent injury concerns.

Attackers Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga and Cristiano Ronaldo were also spotted arriving at the hotel, meaning Rangnick is set to have a plethora of attacking options available to him this evening.

However, midfielder Nemanja Matic and striker Edinson Cavani, as per Rangnick's confirmation yesterday, have not been included in the squad.

Confirmed United squad members:

David de Gea, Dean Henderson, Tom Heaton, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Alex Telles, Fred, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo.
