Manchester United sent Erik ten Hag warning as Rio Ferdinand names two ideal summer signings

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Tuesday, March 15.

Ferdinand names key United signings

Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he would like to see Manchester United strengthen their defensive options in the summer, with Paris Saint-Germain's Marquinhos and Ronald Araujo from Barcelona top of his wish list.

United — who bolstered their centre-back options with the addition of Raphael Varane last summer — have struggled defensively this season, so much so that they have conceded more goals (40) than anyone else currently in the top eight in the Premier League table. Injury issues, illness and poor form have put pay to United's hopes of having a settled backline throughout the campaign.

While Varane has looked assured when selected, his partner Harry Maguire has experienced a difficult campaign. He has been often guilty of committing costly errors and has been heavily criticised.

Stam sends warning to Ten Hag

Former United defender Jaap Stam has warned Erik ten Hag that he would find things very different at Old Trafford to what he has accustomed himself to at Ajax in recent years.

The Dutchman, along with PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino, is one of the frontrunners to be installed as United's next permanent manager ahead of next season. Ten Hag has done a terrific job at Ajax in recent years and has put the club back on the map.

Leading them to two domestic league titles, Ten Hag has also turned the Dutch outfit into a formidable force in Europe, as highlighted by how comfortably they won their Champions League group earlier this season. Despite being pitted up against Besiktas, Borussia Dortmund and Sporting Lisbon, they won all six of their group games, scoring 20 goals in the process.
