Manchester United search for new manager as Premier League club 'pushing' for £18m star

Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories that you might have missed.

It's been a positive few days for Manchester United supporters, who've seen the team rise to fourth place and in a Champions League spot.

United are already searching for their next permanent manager, despite the positivity.

As we are approaching the final week of the January transfer window, United are still being linked with moves. Still, it looks like there's going to be a few outgoings as a Premier League club are looking to sign one of United's midfielders 'in a matter of hours.'

Anthony Martial looks increasingly likely that he's going to be leaving the club, and reports from Italy are suggesting that Juventus are now leading the race for his signature.

New manager race

The MEN reported last week that United had begun their search for a permanent manager, and those reports are now being echoed by other parts of the media.

The Athletic are reporting that the names being considered are Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag, Luis Enrique and Julian Lopetegui.

One factor United is considering is candidates who have experience working at major European teams, and the names above reportedly satisfy those criteria.

Opinion: All the managers mentioned would be decent appointments, but United should be moving heaven and earth for Mauricio Pochettino or Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag is my personal choice, but Pochettino would also be a great addition.

Premier League club 'pushing' for £18m star

With the January transfer window approaching its final week, it feels as if Manchester United will be busy, but not with any incomings.

United need to cut down their squad, and with reports of dressing room discontent, it would be best if the club shipped off some of the unwanted players.

One who fits under that category is Jesse Lingard. He's been a fine servant at United, but he just hasn't been getting the game time he deserves.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano suggested that Newcastle United will push to sign Lingard (rated at £18m by Transfermarkt.com) 'in the next hours.'

Opinion : It would be in the interest of both parties for Jesse Lingard to move on from United, and I hope he has a successful career elsewhere. It would be good if the club could get some money for him, but even if it is a loan deal, let him leave.

Juventus' ahead' in Martial race

Another player who looks like he could leave the club is Frenchman Anthony Martial. On Saturday, he came on as a substitute in United's 1-0 victory over West Ham and looked sharp.

However, it's been well documented that Martial wants to leave the club, and it isn't wise to keep players in a squad when they don't desire to play for the badge.

Juventus are reportedly in the lead to sign him, fighting off competition from Sevilla.

Tuttomercatoweb claims the Serie A giants are favourites for a deal because they have the financial power to contribute to his hefty wage demands. Sevilla doesn't want to pay any of his wages, which has been a stumbling block for them.

Opinion: Despite some of the negative views on Anthony Martial, I wish nothing but the best for him if he does move on with his career. Juventus seems like a good move because they need a striker; he'll do well in Italy.
