Manchester United's unwanted Premier League record continues after Raphael Varane disallowed goal

Manchester United remain the only side in the Premier League not to have scored from a corner this season.

United drew 1-1 with Burnley on Tuesday night and they thought they had got rid of that unwanted record early in the game.

Raphael Varane climbed over James Tarkowski to score from a corner within 15 minutes to open the scoring for United, but the goal was disallowed after VAR reviewed the chance and ruled Harry Maguire was interfering from an offside position.

That disallowed goal meant United are still the only team in the Premier League not to have scored from a corner this term.

Eric Ramsay was appointed as United's first set-piece specialist and individual development coach in the summer.

Ramsay became the youngest Brit to gain his UEFA Pro Licence badge two years ago, which is the top coaching qualification in the game, and he arrived at the club with a lofty reputation despite being in the early stages of his career.

However, the coach has ultimately been unable to improve United's awful record from corners this campaign.

Ralf Rangnick was recently asked about United's failure to score from a corner. "In the end, this is a question of training time but is also a question of deliveries," Rangnick said.

"And this is really a little bit weird, to be honest, because we players who should be technically able to deliver the balls in the right way. But we still have to work on that and we still need to improve in those areas.

"At least we scored a goal after a free-kick against Villa. The first goal at Villa Park was after a free-kick, but I fully agree we haven’t conceded as yet in the last weeks and months but we should also be more dangerous and more effective on set-pieces ourselves."
