Manchester United's stance on former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards revealed

Manchester United are 'unlikely' to make a move for former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards, according to reports.

The Manchester club are one of two Premier League sides to be linked with the 43-year-old following his departure from Anfield this summer. Chelsea are also said to be keen after Marina Granovskaia's exit.

The Manchester Evening News claims United aren't currently looking to add to their football department with John Murtough currently 'running the show' and he has the full support of the club.

Edwards has played a crucial role in Liverpool's success over the years both on and off the pitch. The likes of Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho and Ibrahima Konate were all brought to the club thanks to his work.

Off the pitch, he was the driving force behind the design of the AXA Training Centre, taking inspiration from Salzburg's Red Bull Academy. His departure has alerted clubs not only in England, but across Europe.

Real Madrid were rumoured to be interested in Edwards last year, while there were also reports Red Bull Leipzig could look to bring him to the Bundesliga. Manchester United's interest has now been quashed, but reports continue to circulate regarding a switch to Chelsea.

The London club embark on a new era this summer under fresh ownership with chairman and co-owner Todd Boehly currently operating as sporting director. A report from The Times this week claims Edwards is among the options being considered by Chelsea as a long-term solution.

At Liverpool, Edwards has been replaced by his deputy Julian Ward who has already played a big role in transfers including the signings of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.
