Manchester United's Marc Skinner nominated for WSL manager of the month

Marc Skinner has been nominated for the Barclays WSL manager of the month for the second successive month.

Skinner’s side currently sits top of the table with maximum points from five games, a record achieved once before by City in 2016, who then went on to be crowned champions.

He was nominated in September after leading his team to a triumphant start to the 2022/23 campaign against Reading and West Ham, winning 4-0 and 2-0 respectively, but the accolade went to Aston Villa’s Carla Ward.

United have since secured further wins against Brighton, Leicester and Everton, with consecutive clean sheets, and Skinner is up for the award for the second time this season.

Ella Toone put two past Brighton to get the early lead followed by Leah Galton and then Adriana Leon’s first goal for the club sealed the 4-0 win for the Reds.

Against Leicester, Nikita Parris’ header gave United the lead in the first half, enough to bring home three points.

Gunners manager, Jonas Eidevall, Chelsea’s Denise Reddy and City’s Gareth Taylor have also been nominated for the October manager of the month award.

Eidevall’s side are also unbeaten but sit behind United in the WSL table on goal difference. Chelsea’s Emma Hayes remains in recovery after her emergency procedure and has left Reddy in charge. Under her reign, she has brought home five wins in all competitions in October.

Gareth Taylor started October with a 4-0 win over Leicester, a 3-0 win away to Tottenham and a gruelling 2-1 win over Liverpool thanks to Hayley Raso’s second-half strike. His side has a four-game winning streak in all competitions as they thumped Blackburn Rovers 6-0 in the Conti Cup.

Voting is now open for supporters and will close at 10am on Monday 7 November. The winner will be announced on Thursday 10 November.
