Manchester United's James Garner sends fresh message amid Nottingham Forest transfer talk

Nottingham Forest loanee James Garner has reminisced on last season for club and country on social media after his commitments with England under-21s came to an end.

Since playing a part in helping the Reds secure Premier League promotion with a win in the Championship play-off final, the Manchester United loanee has been on international duty with the Young Lions. Garner took his total to seven caps for Lee Carsley's side last time out.

The 21-year-old, who has time on his side to add to that tally after only celebrating his birthday in March, started crucial European Championship qualifiers against Czech Republic and Slovenia, which saw England qualify for next summer's finals tournament. Garner will be eligible to play in that tournament as he comes in well after the 1 January 2000 cut-off point by more than a year.

Yesterday, Garner took to social media to mark a momentous season in his fledgling career both internationally and domestically. The post reads: "Season done! Promotion to the Premier League! Qualified for the Euros!"

"Loved every minute of this season," Garner adds. "Time to rest and recover now!"

These comments reiterate what the player said in an interview after the last England youth international of the summer against Slovenia. "I’ve not spoken to Erik ten Hag yet. I’ve not spoken to anyone at the club yet," Garner said.

"From the play-off final, I’ve gone straight to being with England, so I’ve had no rest and no break yet. It’s been football, football, football.

"It’s time for a rest now. I’m not too sure what the future holds."
