David de Gea shared a cryptic tweet on Wednesday as confusion continues to reign over his Manchester United future.
The 32-year-old is set to become a free agent when his contract expires on Friday, with an end to his 12-year spell at Old Trafford looking increasingly likely. United did have the option to extend his stay for another 12 months but wanted to lower his current £375,000-per-week wages.
Talks had been ongoing over a new deal for some time but looked increasingly bleak, with some figures inside the club keen to 'move on' from the Spaniard and a new goalkeeper on the summer shopping list.
The situation took an interesting turn on Tuesday when a report from The Athletic reported that De Gea had in fact put pen to paper on a new contract, agreeing to a 'drastic reduction' in his wages, only for it to be taken off the table, with United wanting to reduce his terms even further.

Despite De Gea looking set to become a free agent on Friday, the saga surrounding his future at United is showing no signs of going away. And the long-standing first-choice looks to be tired of the situation, simply tweeting a yawning emoji on Wednesday afternoon.
De Gea remained adamant throughout the season that he wanted to extend his stay at United, insisting in January that discussions will 'end in a good way'. The former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has been free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with other clubs since the turn of the year.
United have been linked with a number of potential replacements as Erik ten Hag eyes a goalkeeper who better suits his desired style of play. Inter Milan's Andre Onana has been linked recently, with Brentford's David Raya and Diogo Costa of Porto also eyed.
