Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho training with Lionel Messi during international break

Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho is training with Lionel Messi during the international break.

Garnacho was born in Spain and signed for United from Atletico Madrid two years ago. The youngster represented the nation at Under-18 level, but Garnacho is eligible to play Argentina through his mother and he recently switched allegiances.

Garnacho, 17, is yet to make his senior debut at United but he received a shock call-up to Argentina's national side for the international break on the back of some excellent performances at youth level. Garnacho has been instrumental in United's charge to the FA Youth Cup final this season, scoring four goals in four games and he is quickly becoming a key player in the academy setup.

Garnacho is one of seven teenagers that have been called up to Argentina's national side this week and the plan is for them to train with the senior side over the next few days while also working with Javier Mascherano's U20 side.

That has meant Garnacho has the opportunity to train with seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi, among other stars.

The United youngster shared an image with Messi on Wednesday night, calling the forward his 'idol'. Garnacho was recently asked about his surprise inclusion in the Argentina squad and he admitted he had been 'dreaming' of this moment.

“I have always dreamed of sharing a team with stars of this level, and of learning a lot from them," Garnacho said.

“It is a dream to be able to share a team with some of the idols of my childhood, so I am going to take advantage of it to improve [as a footballer]. Likewise, I am always very motivated, because I am doing what I like, which is playing football.”
