Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho scores and assists for Argentina U20 vs Japan

Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho scored for Argentina's U20s on Friday night.

Garnacho started for Argentina and scored the game's opening goal against Japan at the Toulon Tournament. Garnacho also provided an assist during his side's 3-2 win, where he played a total of 75 minutes before being substituted in the latter stages.

The youngster represented Spain at Under-18 level, but Garnacho is eligible to play for Argentina through his mother and he switched allegiances earlier this year. Garnacho was born in Spain and signed for United from Atletico Madrid two years ago.

The forward enjoyed an excellent season in United's academy set up and the Manchester Evening News revealed this week that talks over a new contract with the player are progressing well. United are keen to reward Garnacho for his performances.

Garnacho only signed his first professional contract when he turned 17 last July by penning a deal until 2025, despite recent reports wrongly suggesting he was out of contract next year. United sources aren't surprised at the level of interest in the player.

Ralf Rangnick promoted Garnacho to United's first-team during his reign and he made his debut against Chelsea in April.
