Manchester United remove Ralf Rangnick image outside Old Trafford after exit

Manchester United have removed an image of Ralf Rangnick from outside Old Trafford after it emerged he would not be taking up his planned consultancy role.

Rangnick, 63, took charge of his final United match a week ago when his side were beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace on the final day of the season. United wasted no time in marking the end of his interim reign by unveiling Erik ten Hag as their new manager at a press conference on Monday — and it seems they have wasted little time in replacing him outside of Old Trafford either.

The club have installed a series of different photos that adorn the perimeter wall in front of the stadium and have regularly changed the selected pictures at different stages throughout the campaign.

And following news that Rangnick would not be staying on in a planned consultancy role at the club following his period as interim manager, the club removed an image of him from the wall. Pictures posted on social media showed a before and after of the canvas in question, with an image of Rangnick replaced by one of Bruno Fernandes celebrating a goal earlier in the season.

United had offered the German coach the chance to stay on in a two-year consultancy role in order to offer his expertise as they went forward under the new manager, Ten Hag.

However, it has now been mutually agreed that Rangnick will no longer occupy a future role at the club due to the demands of his new role as Austria manager.
