Manchester United pursuing Harry Kane transfer alternatives as Tottenham stance revealed

Manchester United are working under the belief that Tottenham Hotspur won't be selling star striker Harry Kane this summer, as per our sister title Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils remain interested in signing Kane but they are said to be actively pursuing alternatives, considering Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear that the England captain won't be sold at the end of the current campaign. Kane will be into the final 12 months of his contract in north London this summer and he has consistently been linked with a move to United, as well as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, in recent times.

football.london reported back in March that while former Tottenham managing director of football Fabio Paratici had spoken to Kane's camp on a couple of occasions regarding plans to sit down to discuss a new deal in the near future, the club have as of yet not entered into any formal discussions over a new contract for the 29-year-old. Kane has also constantly made it clear that his main aim has been to win silverware with the Lillywhites, who are yet to win a trophy since their League Cup success back in 2008.

The north London outfit continue to take the stance that they have no intention of letting their star player leave this summer. Many outside the club argue that Levy can't afford to allow the talented frontman to leave for free next year, although others inside Tottenham may equally counter that it's worth the money for another season at the least, considering Kane has netted almost half of his side's goals during the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

The money spent on a replacement or two would certainly not guarantee the same return. Kane's Spurs teammate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has recently weighed in on the matter, telling the club that they need to ensure everything is flawless around their all-time top goalscorer.

"[This latest record] is amazing, but what is there for me to say [about him] that people do not know already, it is maybe difficult, but honestly, it is nice to have him around and he is one of those players who will be in the (record) books, in the history for a very long time," said Hojbjerg earlier this month.

"That we have him around, I think it is important also for Harry to understand he has a big responsibility and also I think the club has a responsibility to make sure the scenario for him is the best possible."

The Danish international added: "I think it is important that everyone understands they have responsibility. For me to play football without responsibility, personally, I find odd, but I also understand this is in some players more than others.

"I think in good teams, the best teams have everyone taking the responsibility in their role."
