Manchester United provide Eric Bailly injury update after Chelsea defeat

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Eric Bailly went to hospital immediately after being carried off via a stretcher during the FA Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea.

The defender suffered what appeared to be a serious head injury in first half stoppage time of United's 3-1 defeat to Frank Lampard's side at Wembley.

But United are hopeful that Bailly will recover quickly after the manager confirmed that he had to be checked over by hospital staff. Bailly suffered two bangs to the head in quick succession after being recalled to the United side in a back three.

Asked about Bailly, Solskjaer told MUTV straight after the game: "Hope he'll be fine. [A] cut is open in his head and he felt a bit wounded by that."

Speaking to the written media in his post-match press conference, the United boss added: "Yeah, he's in hospital going through all the routine checks and protocols, he got a cut in the back of his head as well, I haven't heard, not spoken to the doctor about it yet.

"It had a big impact on the game, Eric played well and we conceded just after the restart and that was very disappointing. Eric was a big part of us not having any chances against us, really.

"Obviously the long lay-off was a big test and we didn't pass it, because we lost our concentration and conceded a goal before half-time, which is disappointing."

Solskjaer also said that Harry Maguire was "fine" after he also took a bang to the head in the collision with Bailly.

Goals from Olivier Giroud and Mason Mount came via David de Gea mistakes and left United with a mountain to climb. It got harder after a Maguire own goal made it 3-0, before Bruno Fernandes pulled back a late consolation from the penalty spoty. Chelsea will meet Arsenal in the FA Cup final.
