Manchester United prompt suspicion Marcel Sabitzer might be staying with new kit release

Manchester United released their new home kit for the 2023/24 campaign on Tuesday morning and the club website gives Marcel Sabitzer's name and his number from this season as a pre-loaded option for fans to have printed on the back.

Fans of the rapper Aitch would have seen the shirt a few days early when he wore it during his Glastonbury performance at the weekend but it was officially unveiled and released on Tuesday morning. Adidas are once again the designer and manufacturer of a shirt that aims to pay homage to Manchester's industrial heritage with geometric designs taking inspiration from the Lancashire rose and the bridge over the river Irwell.

The mostly red shirt features a black, white and red striped crewneck collar, the three stripes of Adidas in black, and black piping down the sides. It comes with white shorts and predominantly black socks with white and black stripes at the top.

The kit can be bought on United's official online store with the option to get any player from the men's or women's teams on the back - with the exception of Alejandro Garnacho. It is safe to view that as a massive hint that the Argentine winger is in line for a squad number upgrade, with MEN Sport understanding the club is considering handing him the famous No.7.

One surprising name you can order on the back of the new kit is midfielder Sabitzer, along with the number he wore during his loan stint during the second half of the season, 15. The Austrian joined United on deadline day of the January window to combat the loss of Christian Eriksen to injury.

Sabitzer made a good if unspectacular impact at Old Trafford and there was speculation Erik ten Hag would look to sign him permanently. However, a nasty knee injury that ruled him out for the last few weeks of the season appeared to have put an end to that idea.

There has been little talk of Sabitzer joining United from Bayern Munich permanently in recent weeks but it is interesting that Wout Weghorst is not available as a pre-loaded option. Weghorst also spent the second half of the season on loan at United but his name and number from last season, 27, are only available as a pre-loaded option to be ordered on the back of 2022-23 United shirts.

Mason Mount is Ten Hag's top target but United have grown frustrated as they've seen three bids, reaching as high as £55million, rejected by Chelsea who are holding out for £65million including add-ons for a player in the final year of his contract. United don't want to pay that much and are considering alternatives in Moises Caicedo and Adrien Rabiot, though Rabiot is reported to be closing in on a contract renewal at Juventus.
