Manchester United players react as Timothy Fosu-Mensah plays first game in almost a year

Manchester United players have been sharing their reactions on social media as Timothy Fosu-Mensah returned to football after a long spell on the sidelines.

The 24-year-old left Old Trafford for Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021.

Shortly after his switch to the Bundesliga club Fosu-Mensah ruptured his cruciate ligament leaving him out of matches for almost a year.

Last weekend he returned to the bench as Leverkusen drew 2-2 with Union Berlin but after starting on the sidelines versus Borussia Monchengladbach, he came on to play 34 minutes.

Bayer Leverkusen were victorious 2-1 thanks to goals from Robert Andrich and Patrik Schick.

Marking his return on Instagram, the Dutch full-back said: "Back after 321 days. All glory to God."

United players shared in his delight with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek and James Garner among those celebrating his return.

Former Red Odion Ighalo also added his well wishes, and so did fellow countryman and Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

Fosu-Mensah's current club have enjoyed a good first half of the season and find themselves third in the Bundesliga.
