Manchester United players follow Mason Mount into Carrington as pre-season preparations begin

A number of Manchester United players returned to training on Monday morning as the club closed in on their first signing of the summer.

Antony and Lisandro Martinez were among the group of players who arrived at the club's Carrington training ground as they began their pre-season preparations under Erik ten Hag.

The South American duo both missed out on the closing stages of last season through injury and watched on as United lost to City in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Martinez and Dean Henderson were both pictured on Monday morning again, having returned to training early last week. Henderson has not played since January due to a thigh strain and had surgery last month. He could miss a chunk of pre-season but is expected to be fit for the start of the new season, although expects to be a Nottingham Forest player by the time the Premier League gets underway.

United play their first summer friendly against Leeds in Oslo next week as preparations begin before their US tour later in the month.

Donny van de Beek was also spotted arriving back at Carrington amid uncertainty surrounding his future at the club. The Dutchman has struggled to make an impact at United and has been sidelined since suffering an injury in the first match of 2023.

Meanwhile, United academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo arrived at the training ground ahead of what could be a crucial pre-season for him.

John Murtough was present at Carrington on the morning that Mason Mount underwent his medical ahead of his imminent move to Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old is understood to have arrived at United's training complex in a van at around 8am, with photographers snapping the vehicle that was carrying the England midfielder.

United sources say football director Murtough "held the line and did a really good deal" after the club finally reached an agreement to sign Mount from Chelsea last week.
