Manchester United crashed out of the FA Cup in the fifth round as they lost 4-3 on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw with Fulham at Old Trafford.
The visitors took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Calvin Bassey headed home from a corner which the Red Devils defended desperately poorly.
But Bruno Fernandes tucked United level with an expertly-taken second-half strike.
Both teams played out a goalless 30 minutes of extra time, before Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee had their spot-kicks saved by Bernd Leno.
Standard Sport’s Dom Smith was at Old Trafford to rate the Manchester United players’ performances…
Andre Onana 6
Couldn’t get near Bassey’s opener, but did save well from a second-half effort by Emile Smith Rowe and then from the Englishman again to prevent a 95th-minute Fulham winner.
Leny Yoro 5
Might have done more to defend Fulham’s goal, but otherwise quite composed on the ball.
Matthijs de Ligt 7
Played some excellent long passes and made a lovely crunching tackle on former Red Devil Andreas Pereira. Really good.
Harry Maguire 5
Decent on the ball. Dealt well enough with the threat of Rodrigo Muniz from open play. Might have picked up a knock before being subbed off.
Diogo Dalot 7
Played really well - winning headers, receiving down the left, bombing on, and picking up the assist for Fernandes’s equaliser.
Christian Eriksen 6
Influential for United, particularly in the first half, as he sprayed passes around and forced Leno into a good save.
Manuel Ugarte 4
Conceded a free-kick in a useful area for Fulham, picking up a booking that would have seen him suspended for the quarter-final. Subbed off.
Noussair Mazraoui 5
Was okay, but didn’t do anything spectacular, either defensively or going forward.
Bruno Fernandes 7
Was having a poor game by his high standards - until he fed the ball precisely into the corner to level the tie for United.
Joshua Zirkzee 5
A talented player but not a match in which the Dutchman was really able to show it. Missed the decisive penalty.
Rasmus Hojlund 4
No lack of effort from the Dane, yet he barely got a look in.
Subs
Alejandro Garnacho (Ugarte, 53’) 5
Beat Timothy Castagne on the outside a couple of times after his introduction.
Victor Lindelof (Yoro, 53’) 5
Quiet after his introduction in the middle of the back three. Denied from his penalty with a limp effort.
Chido Obi (Hojlund, 68’) 6
Pressed the Fulham backline. Meaningful minutes in such a crucial match a great experience for the 17-year-old, who had three chances and so nearly scored the winning goal.
Casemiro (Eriksen, 68’) 5
Some nice touches in midfield. Has his critics but alright.
Ayden Heaven (Maguire, 91’) 5
Slotted in well on the left of the back three.
