Man United player ratings vs Liverpool: Paul Pogba and Harry Maguire woeful

David de Gea

Well beaten for all goals on a night he was always destined to be busy. Liverpool showed him mercy. 4

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Recalled to the team in an attempt to shore up the defence but he was reliably wretched. One of United's worst signings post-Ferguson. 2

Victor Lindelof

Had performed in competitive back threes against Liverpool in the past but not this time. Overwhelmed from start to finish. 2

Harry Maguire

Had the gall to claim he was still deserving of his place. Quickly showed why it is the opposite by being lured into Liverpool's trap. Could have gone off ahead of Jones and then lost Sadio Mane for the third goal. 1

Phil Jones

This was only his second start in two years and it showed. He actually looked hurt by the shambles before his half-time withdrawal. 3

Diogo Dalot

Started on the left and then switched to the right as United tried to get a tune out of either of the wing-backs. Off the pace for both first-half goals. 2

Paul Pogba

Started hobbling after Liverpool scored in the fifth minute. Soon hobbled off. Should not have started and should never play for United again. 0

Nemanja Matic

Was in a losing battle against Liverpool's imperious midfield, especially as he was the only specialist midfielder. 3

Bruno Fernandes

Only world-class if the stadium is empty. Against a world-class team, Fernandes was a passenger. 2

Anthony Elanga

Started in a front two and then moved to the right to accommodate Jadon Sancho. The game completely passed him by. 2

Marcus Rashford

Played on the shoulder and had one opening but failed to kill the ball. Wasted a one-on-one at 2-0 that might have made the match a contest. 2

Subs

Jesse Lingard

Actually looked like he cared but had little joy all night. 4

Jadon Sancho

Had United's first attempt on target in the 55th minute and played Rashford through for a one-on-one. 6

Hannibal Mejbri

Late cameo, booked and ran more urgently than most. 5

Manager

Even with a depleted midfield, a back three was tantamount to waving the white flag and United posed no attacking threat. 2
